Lih Y. Lin joined the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Washington in 2003, where she is now a Professor. She received Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UCLA in 1996. From 1996 to 2000, she works in AT&T Labs-Research as a Senior Technical Staff Member. Her main research activity was in micromachined technologies for optical switching and lightwave communication system. In March 2000, she joined Tellium, Inc. as Director of Optical Technologies to work on high-port-count MEMS optical crossconnects, where she had a sip of telecom start-up frenzy, was gladly terminated, and happily found her next home back to academia. Her current research interests are in quantum dot nanophotonics, nanostructure-enhanced laser tweezers, bio-photonics, and optical MEMS/NEMS.

Dr. Lin is a Fellow of IEEE and a member of OSA. She has served on the technical program committee and as chair and co-chairs of various technical conferences, including International Optical MEMS and Nanophotonics Conference, OFC, CLEO Pacific Rim, IEEE LEOS Annual Meeting, OSA Annual Meeting, and OSA Photonics in Switching Topical Meeting. She has served as guest editor for Journal of Lightwave Technology, IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, and IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics. She has over 75 journal publications, over 160 conference papers, and 5 book chapters. She holds 32 US patents.
