Associate Professor Denise Wilson has been chosen as winner of the UW's 2008 S. Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award.

The S. Sterling Munro Public Service Teaching Award is presented to a faculty member demonstrating exemplary leadership in service internships and community-partnership projects. Munro was an aide on the staff of the late U.S. Sen. Henry M. Jackson and was also an administrator of the Bonneville Power Administration.

Professor Wilson was chosen for her leadership in the service learning movement in engineering, promoting a model of teaching that unites service and academic work directly in the context of a community need, as exemplified in her course "The Impact of Katrina on Technology and Infrastructure". Denise will be recognized in June with 25 other winners of university awards. She will receive a $5000 award and funding for a graduate student to work with her during the next academic year.

We would like to congratulate Denise on this well-deserved honor.
