Setting up a new Remote Desktop on Mac, iOS, or Android

When using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app on a Mac, iPad, iPhone, or Android device for the first time, you need to set up a "new desktop" that provides the information the app needs to connect. This page explains how to do that.

The images below are from the iPad version of Microsoft Remote Desktop, but the other versions all work in a very similar manner.

  1. Select "New Remote Desktop" (on the Mac version, click on the plus icon at the top of the window).
  2. The PC Name must be rdp.ee.washington.edu . We suggest using "UWEE Virtual Lab" for the Connection Name. Other than those two fields, you can leave everything else alone.
  3. After entering those values, click the "Save" link on the upper right. Note that the Mac version auto-saves (there's no "Save" link) - so, in that case, just close that window when you're done.
  4. That's all there is to it! From now on, when you want to make the connection just click on the "UWEE Virtual Lab" entry.
